"Introducing the Author... Edmond Hamilton" — from Imagination

This autobiographical essay by science fiction writer Edmond Hamilton appeared in the April 1956 issue of Imagination alongside Hamilton’s novella, “The Legion of Lazarus”. It’s fun to think of Hamilton as a fanboy, which is exactly what he sounds like when describing the magazines, stories, and authors he read as a boy. His and Leigh Brackett’s Ohio home sounds enticing, too.

"Introducing the Author... Frank M. Robinson" — from Imagination

This autobiographical essay by science fiction writer Frank M. Robinson appeared in the June 1955 issue of Imagination alongside Robinson’s novelette, “Wanted: One Sane Man”. For me, the best part is where Robinson is defending J. Robert Oppenheimer. With the runner-up being his name dropping of Imaginations editors, the husband and wife team of William L. Hambling and Frances Hambling.

"Introducing the Author... Robert A. Heinlein" — from Imagination

This autobiographical essay by science fiction writer Robert Heinlein appeared in the Nov. 1953 issue of Imagination alongside Heinlein’s short story, “Sky Lift”. A light-hearted, almost silly (and dare I say, conceited?), but interesting take on Heinlein’s world view.

"Introducing the Author... Evan Hunter" — from Imagination

This light-hearted, but informative autobiographical essay by Evan Hunter appeared in the Dec. 1953 issue of Imagination alongside Hunter’s novelette, “First Captive”. I particularly like the paragraphs towards the end where Hunter discusses character. [click on the image to make it larger]

"Introducing the Author... Philip K. Dick" — from Imagination

A marvelously self-effacing biographical essay from Philip K. Dick. It appeared in the February 1953 issue of Imagination alongside his short story, “Piper in the Woods.”
