Book Trailer: Greasing the Pinata by Tim Maleeny

A few months ago—November 10th when I actually checked and wondered where the hell time goes—I posted a review of a short story by Tim Maleeny titled “Hardboiled”. It was a terrific short—if you want to read the review go Here.

Mr Maleeny has a new novel out from Poisoned Pen Press titled Greasing the Pinata. I started it a few days ago and so far it is also great. The book trailer is what first sparked my interest in the novel.

Here it is…

Book Trailer: THE ATTRACTION by Douglas Clegg

The Attraction is a mass-market paperback released by Leisure Books in 2006. It contains two novellas. The first is the title piece, "The Attraction" and the second is titled "The Necromancer." "The Attraction" is the better of the two stories; it is a straight forward slasher-type horror yarn (I've always wanted to use that word) that reminded me more than a little of a high quality slasher horror film mixed with something Richard Laymon would have written. The description and location is spot on: As I read it I could feel and smell and the desert heat.

The Attraction is probably the last Clegg title I've read and yesterday when I bumped into the trailer on You Tube, I had to ask myself why? He's a pretty damn good writer and while his current vampire series doesn't intrigue me most of his early work is really terrific.

Book Trailer: The Chameleon Conspiracy

I've read two thrillers by Haggai Carmon this year -- Triple Identity and The Red Syndrome -- and I enjoyed both. The novels feature DOJ lawyer Dan Gordon; a protagonist that has a little trouble with authority and doesn't mind breaking the rules to catch the bad guy. There is always a financial connection and Gordon always follows the money.

The third novel in the series is due out in April 2009 from Leisure Books and Mr. Carmon sent a link to a book trailer that highlights the series. It's pretty good and makes me excited to read The Chameleon Conspiracy.

PS. If anyone knows of any good book trailers send me an email. If you are an author or publisher I would love to hear from you.

Book Trailer: THE DUMA KEY by Stephen King

It’s been awhile since I’ve found a good book trailer; probably more that I haven’t been looking all that hard and less that there aren’t any out there. I’ve been eyeing Stephen King’s latest paperback the last few days and I found a book trailer for it over at YouTube. It looks great.

Now I just need to read the book.

The Brass Verdict -- Book Trailer

I'm always looking (so long as I don't have to go too far out of my way) for a well-made and interesting book trailer so when I heard--on Ed Gorman's blog--about the trailer for Michael Connelly's latest novel The Brass Verdict I had to take a look. I was impressed with what I saw.

The trailer is produced by veteran film and novel writer Terrill Lee Lankford and it feels more like a short film than a trailer. It shows us the characters, action, and the moody violence of a story I want to read. A few more book trailers like The Brass Verdict and the kids will be reading again.

And as a bonus here is the trailer for Connelly's Echo Park. It runs something over nine minutes, but it's worth the time.

Book Trailer: THREE SHIRT DEAL by Stephen J. Cannell

I found another book trailer this morning—it’s Stephen J. Cannell’s latest novel Three Shirt Deal, and it’s the best trailer I’ve seen yet. Which is probably expected since Cannell is best known for his television work including, but most definitely not limited to, The Rockford Files, The A-Team, Silk Stalkings, The Greatest American Hero, and one of my guilty pleasures Renegade.

I have never read a Stephen J. Cannell novel and I don’t know why. I purchased a couple of his early novels a year or so ago—Tin Collectors, and Hollywood Tough—but they’ve sat on my bookshelf since. I need to get one down and read it. And soon.

Book Trailer: Savage Night by Allan Guthrie

I’ve been passively—very passively!—scouting the Internet for book trailers and today I found one. It’s for Allan Guthrie’s latest novel Savage Night; you may remember him from such slam-bang modern noirs as Kiss Her Goodbye and Hard Man. And this trailer makes Savage Night look like a must read.

The narration is in a thick Edinburgh accent so you may have to watch it twice—the first time to get an ear for it, and the second time purely for fun. Heck, watch it three times. I did.

Book Trailer: THE MONEY SHOT by Christa Faust

A month or so ago I received an email from Charles Ardai—I’m on the mailing list over at the Hard Case Crime website—with a teaser about HCC’s February release, The Money Shot by Christa Faust. In it he said we should do two things: 1) go watch the book trailer; and 2) buy the book when it’s released.

The trailer for The Money Shot isn’t nearly as good as the trailer for Dean Koontz’s The Good Guy, but it’s kind of cool. If for no other reason than the dancing girl—whom, I think, is the author, Christa Faust. You can see the trailer below, but according to Charles Ardai the reader should be aware that it doesn’t make for easy reading:

“Fair warning to anyone who might be offended by such things: Some of the content of the novel is pretty raw, in terms of sex and violence. ”

I’ll give The Money Shot a try for no other reason than the cool cover art, but I have to admit I’m getting squeamish. I had to put Richard Laymon’s Savage aside a few evenings ago because it nearly made me sick. And I usually love Laymon’s work. Maybe it’s just my mood. I hope.

Book Trailer: The Good Guy by Dean Koontz

I'm usually a little slow in getting any kind bookworld news other than the latest titles coming out from my favorite writers and publishers, so most of you may have seen this, but I really liked it. It's a book trailer for Dean Koontz’s novel The Good Guy. I haven’t read it, but the trailer really makes me want to.

I’m really just discovering book trailers, and if there are any out there you would recommend please do.
